My husband and I play in a music group called the DavidYonkerBand (www.davidyonkerband.com). We enjoy playing several gigs each summer and some during the school year as well. This endeavor is always exciting as the entire group has a passion for the praise of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Our mission is to share the Gospel (good news) through music and testimony.
Reverting back to last June, the DavidYonkerBand led worship for the Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International conference in North Carolina. Our time there was blessed in so many ways. One particular session of music transitioned to a speaker names Joy, who spoke about being in God's will. The overarching theme was when God calls you to do something, you must respond in obedience.
My husband had told me that God was about to change some things in our lives. Jeff became excited after hearing Joy speak, so he approached her afterward to discuss some of her presentation. Jeff stated that he had a desire to focus on God and sprinkle Pharmacy on top instead of having a whole lot of Pharmacy with a side of Jesus. Their location became busy with activity and distractions, so Joy told Jeff to give her a call once we had settled back home in Michigan.
The rest of the conference went well, and we really enjoyed our time there. Jeff made many connections in the Pharmacy world, and our band had a blast leading so many in worship. As we traveled home, the stirring of the Holy Spirit was apparent. Something was going to change.
A few weeks later, Jeff called Joy, and she told him that Cedarville University was looking for faculty at their new School of Pharmacy. She wanted Jeff to call her friend, Nathaniel Cliff (who worked at Cedarville), and see what positions were available. Jeff wondered why that name sounded so familiar. Eventually, he recalled his luncheon with Nathaniel in San Diego! Jeff told Joy that he was not interested in changing jobs and how "cold calling" someone for a job is not acceptable. Joy stopped him mid-sentence, and asked, "Are you going to obey God or not?"
Jeff called Nathaniel.
Nathaniel graciously received Jeff's phone call, asking what he could do for Jeff. Jeff answered that he really wasn't sure what Nathaniel could do for him, but Joy wanted him to call. They discussed positions, qualifications, and hopes. Eventually, Jeff stopped the conversation and simply said that he really wanted a Student Services position. After a pause and in astonishment, Nathaniel stated that their student services person had resigned the previous week!
God was on the move, and apparently, so were we.
