Day Two: Let the Conference Begin

We "slept in" late. The sun was brightly streaming in our windows when we awoke on Friday. We raced to get ready to make breakfast before it closed.

Jeff had responsibilities in the late morning, so Keegan and I were off on our own adventures. We decided to go to the San Antonio Zoo. We knew that a bus would come near the hotel, but we weren't sure when or where. So, we began by exploring the streets near us. We found that Alamo Street is one block from the hotel, and there was an information center! We located a bus schedule to find out that the bus had left five minutes before we saw the schedule. The next one would come in an hour, so we took a taxi. At that price, we should have waited for the bus!

We saw many animals at the zoo including a rhino, zebra, elephant, and a roaring lion. I will post pictures upon our return home. There was a wide variety, and it was really neat. We did ride the bus back to the hotel.

Here's the start of the San Antonio Zoo!

Keegan loves the aquarium tanks.

Mind you, I'm not promoting anything here.

No, the stork is not real.

This Alligator is real, though.

This was a crazy looking duck that we had never seen before this time.

I had to take a picture of this because of our friends, the Reeves.

There is the little Muntjac!

The zoo had a children's wading pool, which of course, Keegan became soaked.

There was a giant turtle shell this size, but the climbing shell was a sturdy replica.

Jeff was able to take the evening off to have supper with us. We heard good reviews of a Brewery on the South side of town, about a mile away from us. We began walking in search of a bus stop. We didn't find one. As we were walking, we realized that there was an Arts festival that weekend, and the streets were crowded. Finally, we made it to the brewery. The wait was long, the food was mediocre, the service stunk, the room was freezing, and they had some female WWF style wrestling on the giant screen right next to our table. So much for the reviews.

We began to walk home, intending to take a taxi since it was too late to catch a bus. We realized that all of the taxis were heading toward that Arts festival and any that were going our way were already full. The crowded streets were now overcrowded as we walked bumping into all kinds of people, many of whom had too much to drink. Keegan was a bit frightened, but we survived the whole ordeal. Eventually, we did find a taxi about three blocks from our hotel. We rode in it anyway.

Three very exhausted travelers sank into their beds.
